* 90-minute docent-led tour of this fabulous garden

*Just after their 12th annual Cherry Blossom Festival.

*Cost: $12 or $10 for seniors (65+)

*Optional lunch (your cost) follows at the Prado restaurant in the park.

*This tour consists of the lower 7-acre canyon expansion area and includes these highlights:

Dry stone cascade – Cherry tree grove – Turtle island

Wooden bridges – Babbling stream – Waterfall

 Sitting Buddha sculpture – Inamori Pavilion

Our Annual Holiday Tea!

 

Monarch School Clothing Drive 

We have a tradition of donating clothing to the children who

attend the Monarch School, the comprehensive K through 12 public school for home-less children in San Diego. This year there is a special need for clothing items listed below.  (New items only, please.) 

LJGC member Anita Lindberg, who volunteers at the school, will deliver our clothing donations to the school.   THANK YOU!

Boys’ shoes – Sizes 7 to 10.5

Girls’ leggings, black or grey – Sizes small to XXL

Boys’ and girls’ hoodies and jackets – All sizes

Spring Scholarship Luncheon

Our 3 very happy scholarship recipients  – they recieved a Scholarship AND a beautiful arrangement donated by Anne Holst, Wil Herring & Patricia JosephFrom L to R:

Then head to the Woman’s Club for Lunch after the tour.

(This fundraiser is in lieu of the Gardners Market)

Huntington Gardens Field Trip!

Thursday February 8th!
Reserve your spot for the Huntington Gardens field trip!  Invite your friends to join us, too!  The trip is Thursday, February 8th, and the cost is $90 (includes everything (including tips for driver and docents), except lunch – details, below).  Please make checks out to: LJGC.

Details of trip: 
7 am meet luxury bus at Renaissance Towne Center (plenty of all-day free parking is available on Renaissance Ave) 
10 am arrival at Gardens. Our bus will be met by our docents, who will escort us to the entrance and take us on a 1-hour Estate Tour. Each docent group will have 8-10 members.  Part of the tour will involve walking on grass.  Wear comfortable walking shoes.  Wheelchairs are available.
12 noon lunch.  There are 2 main venues:
-The Rose Garden Tea Room:
$45, including tax and tip.  It is no longer a buffet, and reviews since this change have been mixed.  A reservation is required, so please let us know if you want to do the Tea Room lunch.
Cafe 1919:
There are 5 cafes inside, each featuring a different cuisine.  A whole meal is $20 or less, per the tour coordinator.  Her favorite is the yakatori chicken salad for $12.  Indoor and outdoor seating is available. No reservations.
Afternoon:
-The Botanic Gardens encompass 120 acres, including more than a dozen principal garden areas for us to roam.  
-We are also welcome to visit the two Art Galleries on either side of the Rose Garden Tea Room, featuring European and American art, and special exhibits.
-The Library is open only to scholars – it contains an astounding seven million manuscripts, 420,000 rare books and 1.3 million photographs, prints and ephemera.
4 pm:  Board bus and head home
7 pm: Arrive at Renaissance Towne Center

Weidners Potting Adventure

Monday • May 8th • 10:00am – 1:00pm

Get ready for the Gardeners’ market all in one place at one time!  Evelyn & Sabrina will help us choose plants and design and plant beautiful containers to sell at our Market.  We’ll purchase plants & pots (or bring your own pots) and they will supply the soil and design experience.  Then stay for our salad lunch in their picturesque setting.
